Homework for Sunday

This week we have been learning about verbs, please find a song about verbs here:

Notes on the verbs that have been put into the binders/copybook should be colored as in the pictures below:

Verbs in Purple:

action verbs – words that express action
Ex: Salma runs in the race.


linking verbs – words that show a state of being 
Ex: Soulaf is the fastest runner.


helping verbs – words that help the main verb express an action or state of being; helping verbs are part of a verb phrase that includes the helping verb and an action or linking verb
Ex: Ms. Aurelia might win the race. 

infinitive – the base form of the verb; present tense

present participle – used to form continuous tense; made by adding the helping verb “is” before the verb and –ing to the end of the base form of the verb


past – used to express a previous action or a state that previously existed; add –ed

past participle – used to show that something started in the past but still continues; made by adding the helping verb “have” before the verb and –ed to the end of the base form of the verb

Homework for Monday 12th

Students in class today worked on a reading comprehension called Cat Worship and worked on context clues.

Students are to read the passage carefully at home again, correct their mistakes (and try to write a paragraph for question #7 which many did not even try to do in class), and look up in a dictionary the following words:

Many students also did not correct the quiz from last week to make up for their grade or to get a bonus for the quarter. Please make sure they do so. thank you!

Homework

Please make sure that the quizzes are corrected for next Sunday, and that students :

• complete the bonus sheet crosswords if they were not able to complete it in class
• rewrite sentences with the expressions underlined
• look up the words enable, obtain, slew, shallow from the reading comprehension in the quiz 
• rewrite question 8 in their own words, explaining how cacti are able to survive in the desert. 

Homework

Many students did not complete the classwork in the practice book. This has to be finished for Monday.
